Wendy Kirkup studied at Brighton Polytechnic and Newcastle Polytechnic. She was Associate Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle and in 1998/99 was Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Geography and Topographic Science, University of Glasgow. 

Locus+ has a long standing relationship with Wendy Kirkup, having commissioned Search by her and fellow artist Pat Naldi back in 1993 as Locus+'s first project.
