Alan Moore, The Birth Caul, 1995

Alan Moore, David J & Tim Perkins
The Birth Caul, 1995

A performance monologue by comic book writer Alan Moore, in collaboration with composer David J (of pop group Bauhaus) and musician Tim Perkins.

Seated in the judge's chair of the (disused) Old County Court in Newcastle upon Tyne, Moore referred to the birth caul - the torn piece of membrane wrapped occasionally around the newborn head - as a natal ticket snub, drawing on its talismanic qualities (many believe if kept, it will provide protection against drowning and provide safe passage).
