Permit yourself... 2011

15.09-23.10.2011
Unit 91, Alexandra Business Park, Pallion, Sunderland

Permit yourself…
is a large-scale kinetic sculpture formed from double-sided mirrors, with text intricately cut out of each panel and assembled as a huge mobile.

Hanging within a large warehouse in the heart of one of Sunderland’s industrial quarters, by the River Wear, Permit yourself… is continually moving.  With each panel revolving slowly, no visitor will experience the same sequence of changing light and text.

Co-commissioned by Locus+ and Great North Run Culture

The preview of Permit yourself... featured a special collaborative musical performance by Rhodri Davies and Nwavi, who constructed an improvisation based on the visual stimulus of the work and an interpretive understanding of the text using harp, live electronics, analogue sequencing, and field recordings.
